Things You Need to Know About Tbilisi

Tbilisi is technically Asian but feels European! If you haven't visited Tbilisi yet, you're missing out!

  • Georgia borders Russia to the north, Azerbaijan to the east, Armenia to the south and Turkey to the southwest. Tbilisi is located on the Asian continent, on both banks of the Kura River, which originates in Ardahan and flows into the Caspian Sea.
  • If you want to experience interesting history, diverse architecture, impressive views and good food, it is the right choice.
  • Tbilisi is not only for its touristic spots, but also for its streets, buildings and wonderful places.
  • Tap water in Tbilisi is safe to drink. In fact, it tastes very nice.
  • You will see many stray cats and dogs. Don't be afraid, most of them are domesticated, vaccinated and microchipped. Don't be afraid to pet them, they love cuddles.

In Which Season Should You Go to Tbilisi?

Just don't go in July and August when the summer heat is strong. Spring months are ideal. September-October-November and April-May-June months allow you to walk around in dry and warm weather.  We visited in May. The weather is cold of course, but it's not impossible to walk around. Many tourists come here to ski anyway. And if you're coming for Christmas, don't forget that they are Orthodox and set up their Christmas markets late. They are usually set up towards the end of December, and even in January the city is full of lights and decorations.

If you are visiting in the summer, you may experience unpleasant odors, especially when visiting the Sulphur Baths.

Shouldn't We Go to Tbilisi in Summer?

It would be a mistake not to go now that you have found a suitable ticket. After all, you will be transported to a completely different culture that is both visa-free and affordable. If your only opportunity to visit Tbilisi is the summer months, of course you should take advantage of this opportunity! If you are someone who likes warm weather, you will not have any problems. If you say, “Hot weather is not for me,” there are many special summer-approved events, festivals and other activities that you can enjoy as well as things you can do to beat the heat.

Weather in June: More Spring!

Although it varies from year to year, generally speaking, the first half of June is normally a continuation of spring in Georgia. It can be windy and rainy, but at least it’s cool. As June progresses, the weather gradually warms up, with temperatures reaching the mid to high 20s by the end of the month. June is rainier and a bit more humid than July and August. However, it’s still a great time to visit as there are fewer tourists around and you can catch the last of the spring flowers.

What to Do in Tbilisi in Summer?

Wake up early and enjoy the empty streets. This means that there is a 4-5 hour window between sunrise and when most people start their day. Embrace the cooler weather and quieter streets, and explore while the rest of the city is still asleep.

There are dozens of swimming pools in and around Tbilisi, many offering day passes. Try Anne Semonin Spa at the Radisson Blu Iveria or Forma Summer in Chugureti. If you’re ready to venture a little further afield, there are wonderful resort-style outdoor pools in Mtskheta and Saguramo, north of Tbilisi.

If you manage to find your way out of the valley, it can feel a few degrees cooler when you stand on any of Tbilisi’s many hills or ridges. Betlemi Rise is a nice place to have a picnic or lunch and get some (relatively) fresh air, while the National Botanical Gardens have shady walking paths.

During the summer sports season in Tbilisi, the Dinamo Stadium, the city’s largest arena, hosts rugby and football matches almost every weekend. You may be interested in matches from the UEFA Nations League, Europa Conference League and Erovnuli Liga. It can be difficult to find information about upcoming matches. It is usually easiest to visit the stadium ticket office in person.

Taste Tbilisi has a food festival throughout June, the fifth of which is being held this year. Dozens of vendors gather in Dedaena Park near the Dry Bridge Market from 2pm until late on Saturdays and Sundays.

STALL organizes street food, handicraft and agricultural markets every summer in various parks, green areas and Rustaveli Avenue around Tbilisi.

Spring is the Time for Tbilisi

Spring is one of the best times to visit Tbilisi as the weather is neither too hot nor too cold. Spring is all about clear blue skies, warm days and brisk evenings. Come April, the city is awash with green leaves, white and pink cherry blossoms and magnolias.

When is Spring in Tbilisi?

Georgia is in the Northern Hemisphere, so spring falls in March/April/May. The official start of astronomical spring, the March equinox, is celebrated in the third week of March. You can usually feel spring in Tbilisi from early March, but it doesn't get hot until after Orthodox Easter (normally in early April/May). Spring really starts to show by mid-May, and temperatures rise noticeably.

Less Crowded

Compared to the high season in summer, Tbilisi sees fewer tourists in the spring, meaning you can enjoy the city’s attractions, such as the Narikala Fortress, Tbilisi Botanical Garden, and Sulphur Baths, without the crowds.

Live Spring Festivals

Spring in Tbilisi is a time of celebration, with many festivals and events taking place during this time.

If you’re in the Guria region on Easter, you won’t want to miss the legendary event known as Lelo Burti. This isn’t your typical rugby match. Lelo Burti is a full-contact, no-holds-barred game that pits two rival villages, Zemo and Kvemo Shukhuti, against each other. The game is played with a giant 16kg ball made of soaked sand and dirt. The goal? To carry the ball 500 metres to the opposite village’s stream, overcoming any obstacles that may come your way. The first team to cross the finish line takes home the trophy and bragging rights for next year. But that’s not all, folks! The Lelo Burti celebrations also include live music, delicious food and a bustling market selling local produce.

Also, if you’re planning on being in Tbilisi at the beginning of May, you won’t want to miss the epic New Grape Festival, which celebrates the arrival of spring and the newest grape harvest.

Enjoy Tbilisi in Spring

How to Enjoy Tbilisi in Spring?

Tbilisi is even more beautiful in the spring months. So, it is my duty to share the best tips to enjoy Tbilisi in the spring!

Find the Cherry and Magnolia Blossoms of Tbilisi

Rike Park in the center of Tbilisi offers the best examples. 9 April Park is home to magnificent Japanese magnolias. There is also a special sakura garden in the National Botanical Garden. Apart from this, you will see cherry blossoms and magnolias scattered almost all over the city.

Take a Walk in the Botanical Garden

The Georgian National Botanical Garden covers more than 160 hectares and contains 4,500 species of plants and animals. First established in 1845, the garden is second only to the Batumi Botanical Garden in terms of national importance. The garden has many hiking trails that you can use to explore the grounds and get panoramic city views. There are also two waterfalls where you can cool off.

Taste the New Harvest Grapes

Saperavi’s semisweet reds and amber whites are two of my favorite varieties of the Georgian grape, and the spring weather gives you plenty of opportunities to try both.

Go Spring Cleaning at Sulfur Baths

The hot waters and steam saunas really warm up your body and soul. This is a traditional winter activity. But it is equally nice to go to the bath in the spring, especially in the evening. You can have a scrub with the traditional kisi kese (a strong massage with a rough-textured glove). Welcome to spring cleaning, where the body is cleansed of dead skin!

Visit the Street Market on Rustaveli Avenue

One way to tell that spring is approaching in Tbilisi is when booksellers start setting up their stalls on Rustaveli Boulevard. This is the city’s most beautiful walking street, lined with stately buildings and luscious gardens, and home to the magnificent Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre. In spring, vendors turn the street into an open-air library by placing wooden bookshelves along the wide paths. Browse through novels and historical volumes in Georgian, Russian and English while soaking up the soul-nourishing sunlight

Smell the Daffodils at Orbeliani Flower Pavilion

The flower market in Tbilisi’s Orbeliani Square operates year-round, but is especially fragrant in early spring. Florists inside arched pavilions sell giant white lilies, bouquets of roses in every shade of pink, and daffodils that glisten in the sun.

Celebrate Georgia Independence Day

Tbilisi celebrates Georgian Independence Day with an all-day street party on Rustaveli Avenue, featuring market stalls, food, and live entertainment. The weather is usually perfect at the end of May, so there’s no excuse not to join in.

Go Up to Mtatsminda

Mtatsminda is the most well-known and accessible viewpoint of the city. It is located on the hill where the big TV tower and amusement park are located. It is a really nice activity in the spring and summer evenings. There are countless toys inside for children and adults! The huge Ferris wheel is great fun, but I didn't dare. You have the option of going up by funicular. If you want to walk, you can go up to Mtatsminda in less than an hour using one of the 2 walking paths.

Marvel at the Courtyards and Balconies of Tbilisi

A communal courtyard strung with clotheslines. There are few images that are so iconic of Tbilisi. The sheets fluttering in the wind look so beautiful in photographs. Marjanishvili and Betlemi Streets are quite beautiful for courtyard viewing.

Watch an Open Air Movie at Fabrika or Cafe Mizuiri

Speaking of Fabrika, this hostel-style creative space hosts lots of fun events, including an outdoor cinema in the warmer months and a vintage market. Free film screenings usually start in early spring and continue throughout the summer. Be sure to check out the schedule here .

Visit Dry Bridge Market

A visit to Tbilisi's sprawling open-air flea market, the Dry Bridge Market, is a must-do while in the city.

There are a few great day trips from Tbilisi for spring. If the weather is nice, I recommend doing something outdoors. There’s nothing better than heading north into the mountains to escape the city for a day. The hike from Kazbegi to Gergeti Trinity Church is breathtaking in the spring when it’s full of wildflowers.

How Many Days to Stay in Tbilisi?

If we consider the touristic spots of the city, we can say that 2 full days will be enough. But the city dynamics and places say, "Please don't go, stay." You can do it for 3 days, okay! As a family with children, we only enjoyed it in 5 days.

Where to Stay in Tbilisi?

Here comes my favorite question. I think you should skip the old town part. Yes, you are very close to the historical texture and places to visit, but in my opinion, it is not suitable for accommodation at all. Rustaveli Boulevard is nice for accommodation. (If you do not have a stroller) If you are going to choose an Airbnb accommodation in Rustaveli, make sure that it is not on a very hilly place. Because it is quite a hilly place. You can choose the streets parallel to the 1st avenue. As a hotel, I strongly recommend the extremely visionary “Stamba Hotel” and the “Rooms Hotel” right next to it. They both have the same owner anyway.

There is no traffic light on this touristic street of the city. If there is, it is at the beginning and end of the street. You can find escort women who can adapt to all kinds of sex fantasies on all these streets.

Stamba is the best hotel in the city. It starts from 600 GEL per night. Rooms Hotel is more affordable and costs 300-320 GEL per night (May 2024). The Marjanishvili area on the other side of the river is also suitable for accommodation. It is much flatter than Rustaveli. Whether you look for Airbnb or a hotel, the hotel I will definitely recommend here is “FACTORY”. It is actually a hostel mentality, but don’t think of it like those curtained-off hostels. You have the option of a shared room or a private room with a terrace and a view. This is a visionary hotel like Stamba and Rooms, I would say don’t miss it!

The majority of all the ladies who provide Tbilisi Escorts, Batumi Escorts, Georgia Escorts services are women who love sex at the highest level. Sex is a must in their social lives. If there is a man they like, they will do everything to sleep with him.

They even offer to do Group Sex, which is on every man's mind. For this reason, it is very easy to find an Escort Woman in Tbilisi.

Most of the ladies who are Escorts in Batumi love to have double or triple sex. Tbilisi Escort girls love to be the third for married or couples. They make you experience sex that you cannot experience anywhere else in the world.

Now let me explain this for our friends with babies: Rustaveli is full of difficulties, especially if you have babies and children like us. There are no traffic lights on this touristic street of the city. If there are, they are at the beginning and end of the street. Look, this is very important. One traffic light is in front of Stamba Hotel and the other light is at the other end of the street, Freedom Square. They have put an underpass instead of a traffic light. They are not everywhere either. For example, I leave my house and go to a cafe or a place that is just 3 minutes away on the other side of the street and I say, “Where is the underpass?” It is impossible to cross the street quickly. Therefore, the time I have to go is also longer.

Before going with a stroller, I consulted my friends who live there and chose Rustaveli. This is one of the liveliest and most beautiful streets of the city. We stayed in an Airbnb on a parallel street.

What to Do Upon Landing at Tbilisi Airport?

Don't try to get a line from here, they give astronomical prices. You will get it very cheaply in the city center. Magti is one of the most preferred brands in Georgia in terms of price, coverage and customer service. A sim card costs 10 GEL. Again, don't bother changing money. You can easily change it in the city center. They accept credit cards on the bus, and there is internet at the airport for taxis. Download the Bolt or Yandex Taxi app, define your credit card. (We downloaded Bolt when we were in Istanbul) It's done!

Transportation in Tbilisi

Transportation from the airport to the city center:

Taxi: As soon as you land at the airport, taxi drivers will follow you, asking, “Do you need a taxi?”, “Which way are you going?” Continue on your way without even turning your head. If you are going to take a taxi, these are not the ones! The most suitable app for taxis is Bolt. It takes you to any point in the city center in half an hour for 35-40 GEL (May 2024).

Download the app to your phone before flying to Tbilisi. Also define your card. There is already internet at the airport. Call nicely and wait. It also tells you the price according to the road conditions. It takes you to the desired point in the city center in a half hour journey for 20-25 GEL.

Bus: Another option is the bus, which is pretty good for free. Bus number 37 takes 45 minutes to the city center. 1 GEL per person (May 2024). It operates 24/7 from the airport to the central train station Avlabari metro station, Freedom Square and Rustaveli. You can also buy your ticket from the ticket machine on the bus. The machines do not give change, you need to have the exact change ready. It departs every 15 minutes.

Urban transportation:

There are two metro lines, many buses and cable cars that you can use. One trip costs 1 GEL (May 2024). Tbilisi is not a very big city, but I would say don't waste your valuable time walking all the way in 2 days. For example, you walked around the old town. You will go to the Sameba Cathedral, the icon of the city. Call Bolt, finish your trip quickly and enjoy the views.

Because this beautiful city is for enjoying. Since we don't know Georgian, it is almost impossible to drive a bus. We can't stop every bus and ask. So the most logical thing to do is call Bolt from time to time . Okay?

Is Tbilisi Safe?

I find Tbilisi to be a safe city. We came across some strange, extremely dilapidated and deserted streets, but we did not encounter anything scary. On the contrary, those dilapidated streets turned into wonderful places. There is a significant number of police and security in public areas. Of course, crimes are committed here as everywhere else. What you need to be careful about are the drivers. They drive incredibly fast. There are completely different rules in the country, such as using the steering wheel on both the right and the left. That is why we pedestrians have a hard time finding our way. Drivers drive like there is no tomorrow, please be very careful even at pedestrian crossings.

Note: Vehicles with the steering wheel on the right were cheaper, even the most expensive vehicle imported this way cost $2000.

Why Should I Go to Tbilisi?

  • First of all, visa-free. I passed the visa, you can travel directly with your chip ID. When entering the country with a chip ID, an “Entry-Exit form” is given and you must not lose this document during your travel. It is one of the cities that will be like a remedy for you as Schengen rejection decisions increase.
  • The currency of Georgia is GEL. In May 2024, 1 GEL is equivalent to 11.70 Turkish lira. You can also pay with your credit card in most cafes, restaurants, shops and other places. Whether you are a budget or luxury traveler, Tbilisi is generally a budget-friendly destination. There are accommodation, food and beverage options to suit every budget. Entrance to most historical sites is also free.
  • Its natural hot springs are the first stop for many tourists. The sulfur baths in the Abanotubani district are healing.
  • It is a feast for the eyes. Tbilisi is a unique place to visit, hiding beautiful examples of Art Nouveau, a blend of different architectural styles. In the 19th century, Tbilisi began to develop as a European city. The combination of different styles and traditions creates a unique appearance for the city.
  • Tbilisi is not a very popular place. Yes, you heard right. That is, it has not yet become a slave to tourism, my friends. Of course, I said this, but in the old town, you can inevitably be surrounded by tour operators. However, you will not be overwhelmed like in crowded cities.
  • Delicious cuisine and more! There are dishes that we definitely have to try while we are there. For example; khachapuri, which is like an open pita with cheese, and khinkali, which are giant dumplings. By the way, if you think that most of the restaurants focus on Georgian food, you are wrong. You will see many special restaurants that offer dishes from different countries' cuisines and you will want to try more places.
  • Art is bursting from the walls. Many local artists bring the city's walls to life. Keep your eyes open while walking around the streets of Tbilisi. Even if you don't specifically look for it, you will definitely come across it. You can visit Heroes' Square, FABRIKA Hostel, Vake Park to see the works of local artists.

Where Does the Name Tbilisi Come From?

According to a legend, in the 5th century BC, King Vakhtang Gorgasali went hunting in Tbilisi, which was covered with forests. He saw a pheasant and sent his trained hawk after it. Time passed and the pheasant and hawk did not appear. After a short while, they found both of them in hot water. The king liked the place very much and ordered the establishment of a city. The city was named Tbilisi because of the tbili (warm) water there.

Places to Visit in Tbilisi

Almost all the touristic places to visit are in the old town and its surroundings. The museums, the most beautiful streets of the city, and the iconic buildings are spread out in different parts of Tbilisi. You can spend one day in the old town and its surroundings and the other day in museums, areas, and beautiful streets.

Sulfur Baths: Sulfur Baths is another iconic location in Tbilisi. You will see the “Orbeliani Bath” with its cute appearance resembling a mosque. A great place to take photos! Private bath pleasure is 70-130 GEL. The common area is 20-30 GEL (May 2024). It was said that there was an unpleasant rotten egg smell here in general, but thankfully we completed it without smelling anything.

Sulfur Baths, Tbilisi

Meydan Bazaar: Discover Georgian handicrafts and other souvenirs in an underground tunnel bazaar. This covered bazaar goes all the way to the end of the road and is a 5-minute walk from the Sulfur Baths.

Square Bazaar, Tbilisi

Metekhi St. Virgin Church: One of the most impressive sights in the city. Located on the banks of the Kura River, Metekhi Church creates an incredible view. The statue of Vakhtang Gorgasali, the founder of Tbilisi, who gave his name to this beautiful city, is also here.

Metekhi Church, Tbilisi

Sameba Cathedral: The city's most symbolic structure, Sameba Cathedral (Holy Trinity Cathedral), is the largest Orthodox Cathedral in Georgia with a height of 87 meters. Its golden dome can be seen from almost everywhere in Tbilisi. Entry to the cathedral is free, but men must wear long trousers, women must cover their shoulders and head, and wear skirts.

Rike Park: Rike Park is a park where people hang out, as well as a cable car station to Narikala Fortress at the top of the hill. A quick cable car ride will cost you just 2.5 GEL for a 360-degree view of the city (May 2024).

Bridge of Peace: The Bridge of Peace. A modern touch that connects old Tbilisi to new Tbilisi. Interestingly, this modern structure does not look absurd at all on this historical texture.

Bridge of Peace, Tiflis

Queen Darejan Palace: Queen Darejan's former summer home is awe-inspiring with its turquoise balcony hanging over the edge of the cliff It's free to visit, just a short walk uphill from Rike Park.

Queen Darejan Palace, Tbilisi

Narikala Fortress: One of the unique views of Tbilisi. Entrance to the fortress is free. You can either walk along the sulfur baths route or take the cable car for 2.5 GEL. (December 2022) The original fortress was built by the Persians in the 4th century, but most of the original structure has been destroyed over the years. I can say that it is a great spot for panoramic photographs of the city. It will also be very romantic at sunset. If you visit in the spring, be sure to do so.

Kartlis Deda: Kartlis Deda, also known as the Georgian Mother Monument, has been on display on Sololaki Hill since 1950. The Georgian Mother Monument shows her cruelty to enemies by holding a sword in one hand, while showing her hospitality by holding a glass in the other. Kartlis Deda is a 10-minute walk from Narikala Fortress. You can see this magnificent monument while walking around Betlemi Street in the Old City streets. We can say that it is a legacy of Georgian culture.

Kartlis Deda Monument, Tbilisi

Gabriadze Clock Tower: We have come to the most Instagrammable place. This is one of the iconic views of Tbilisi, and the other is the Tbilisi Clock Tower, which symbolizes the cycle of life from birth to death. The Gabriadze Clock Tower is located right next to the Gabriadze Theater. It looks like it is barely standing with the iron planks supporting it . Although it looks old, it was actually added to the theater in 2010, so don’t be fooled by its appearance.

An angel rings a bell in the window of the tower every hour. In the small window below, the life cycle is displayed with tiny puppets symbolizing the meeting of a man and a woman, their marriage, the birth of their child and the funeral. You can check your watches and watch this mini show while you are here.

Gallery 27: Betlemi Street is one of the most beautiful places to take photos. Gallery 27 creates wonderful photo frames with its unique stained glass windows. The building is a 19th century structure, so it is necessary to be quiet during the visit. It was closed for work during our visit in May 2024.

Gallery 27, Tiflis

Mtatsminda Park: We can say that it is located at the top of the city. It is a big amusement park for nature and children. However, it is closed in winter. You can go there by taxi or by funicular for 10 GEL (May 2024). You can also use bus number 390. You can pay with a card on the bus.

Freedom Square: (It was known as Lenin Square during the Soviet period.) You can end your tour in this area by reaching Freedom Square. After reaching this square, do not forget to explore the streets around, there are beautiful buildings and places.

Freedom Square, Tbilisi

Agmashenebeli Boulevard: There are döner shops and shops with Turkish signs everywhere. We found ourselves on a nice street unexpectedly. It has a very European, pleasant atmosphere and is surrounded by very nice buildings on both sides.

Agmashenebeli Boulevard, Tbilisi

FACTORY: This is  a hippie complex in the Marjanishvili district, converted from a large abandoned Soviet textile factory with the highest efficiency. Like the Stamba Hotel, it is a gift to Tbilisi from Adjara Group. Inside, there are various designer stores, ceramics, co-working spaces, delicious food and drinks. Definitely worth a visit.

Factory, exterior, Tbilisi

We went for a drink. In the spring months, the outside area is lively. In the winter months, the inside area is more enjoyable. It is a place where Georgians and tourists hang out. It has both shared rooms like a hostel and stylish private rooms with terraces.

Factory, interior, Tbilisi

Dry Bridge Market: An open-air flea market that is held daily in the center of Tbilisi. It is set up in Dedaena Park, next to Mshrali Khidive. You can buy antiques from the flea market or take photos (with permission, of course). There are many products waiting for you, from porcelain plates to gas masks. The official opening hours of the Dry Bridge Market are 10:00-17:00 every day of the year, except Sundays, January 1st and major holidays such as Orthodox Easter Sunday.

Soviet Suburbs: If you are interested in Soviet architecture, you might like some of the buildings, such as the Bank of Georgia Headquarters, which are geometric cubes stacked on top of each other. You can't go inside, but it's very enjoyable to watch from the outside.

Museums to Visit in Tbilisi

Tbilisi, museums to visit

Georgian National Museum: The Georgian National Museum is actually several museums combined. One of its most notable exhibits is a large collection of gold and jewelry. Other interesting exhibits include human fossils and the Soviet occupation. The museum is open every day except Mondays from 10:00 to 18:00 and is located on Rustaveli Avenue.

Open Air Museum of Ethnography: It is a great place to get to know Georgian culture up close. Houses, agricultural tools, living materials, clothes, statues brought from different regions of Georgia... In short, an open air museum where you can see sections of old Georgian life.

Fine Arts Museum: The museum has a large and diverse collection of Georgian Art. The collection offers a glimpse into the culture of the Georgian people. You can spend 2 hours in the museum and learn about this beautiful culture.

MOMA: MOMA is a 3-story museum on Rustaveli Avenue where you can meet Georgian artists and their works. You can look at the exhibitions before going and visit if you are interested. When I went, I came across the Charlie Chaplin paintings of Georgian artist Zurab Tseretelli, whom he admires, and the exhibition of Azeri artist Aida Mahmudova. It was a pleasure to have such an experience. The entrance fee is 25 GEL (May 2024).

MOMA, Tbilisi

Apart from these, there are many options from the automobile museum to the illusion museum. If you are interested and have time, you can research. The entrance fee for the museums is generally 25 GEL. If you are a student, definitely show your card, you can enter at a discount.

Streets and Avenues to Visit in Tbilisi

Jan Shardeni Street: A very, very photogenic street. A small walking street between Vakhtang Gorgasali Square and Sioni Street. At the beginning there is a small area and square with a bronze statue called “Tamada”. The street is named after the famous French traveler Jean Chardin.

Jan Shardeni Street, Tiflis

Shota Rustaveli Boulevard: One of the few streets that show the modern face of Tbilisi. With its beautiful shops, harmony of old and new buildings and beautiful walking areas, it is a must-see place. While walking on the boulevard, you can also see the Shota Rustaveli Monument, belonging to the famous Georgian poet.

Shota Rustaveli Boulevard, Tbilisi

Abanotubani: Welcome to the sulfur baths of Tbilisi. This is one of the most iconic sights of Tbilisi. Along with the baths, you can also see an awe-inspiring waterfall and houses with balconies that hang precariously over the surrounding cliffs.

Betlemi Street: Running parallel to the Kura River just outside the Old City, Betlemi Street is the center of Tbilisi’s historic Jewish quarter. The main street and its cobblestone streets are home to some of the city’s oldest buildings, including the 13th-century St. George Armenian Cathedral. The Georgian Mother Monument is everywhere you look on this street…

Betlemi Street, Tbilisi

David Agmashenebeli Avenue: A street famous for its classical architecture built in the 19th century. While I was thinking it was beautiful, I came across hookah cafes. What a shame, really. It didn't suit this cool street. There are extremely authentic places. The decision to visit is yours.

David Agmashenebeli Avenue, Tiflis

Tsereteli: Dezerter Market, the largest open-air food market in Tbilisi, is a great prize for tourists. Outside the marketplace, the surrounding streets are full of vendors, giving us great photo opportunities.

What Should We Eat in Tbilisi?

Let's start with the most important fact here. Georgian food is definitely good, but most restaurants put fresh coriander in every dish. In my 34 years of life, I realized here for the first time that I have a hypersensitivity to fresh coriander. However, I have also consumed ground coriander. While I can't eat food because of this thought, my wife would drive me crazy when she said that there is no aroma that would make it taste bad and make her feel bad. I did some research and it was completely genetic.

What should we eat in Tbilisi?

Main Georgian Dishes You Will See on Every Menu

Khachapuri: We can call it an open pita. This round pita is made throughout Georgia and is also widely consumed in former Soviet countries and Israel.

Khinkali: We can call it a giant dumpling. Although it resembles dumplings, it is not served with yogurt or any other sauce. It is usually filled with meat. You can also find varieties with cheese, mushrooms and spinach.

Phali: A traditional Georgian dish made by mixing vegetables such as cabbage, eggplant, spinach, beans or beets with walnuts, vinegar, onion and garlic. What all varieties of Phali have in common is the walnut puree sauce. Georgian restaurants usually serve varieties with spinach, beets or white beans.

Lobio: A traditional bean dish prepared in different ways with different types of beans in Georgian cuisine. It contains different spices and ingredients such as coriander, walnuts, garlic and onion. You can find many varieties of lobio, both hot and cold.

Eggplant with Walnuts: Another common dish you can find in Georgian restaurants. This dish is served by rolling a special eggplant slice and stuffing it with walnuts.

Satsivi: A dish made from poultry such as chicken and turkey with walnut sauce in Georgian cuisine, satsivi is also known as chicken with walnuts. The word satsivi comes from the Turkish word “tsivi”, meaning “cold food”

Çihirtma: Our typical chicken broth soup.

Churchkela: This is our walnut sausage. You can see many flavored varieties on the streets.

Shoti: the bakeries that you can find in a window on any street without a sign are called Shoti. Georgian bread is something you should definitely try in Tbilisi. I'm talking about the bread baked in a well whose smell fills the whole street. This experience was very special for us. Just this is enough, it's that good.

Tbilisi Venue Suggestions

Cafe Stamba, Tiflis

Cafe Stamba: I have mentioned Hotel Stamba before. The printing house where Georgia’s first communist newspaper was printed. You will find an eclectic mix of Georgian craftsmanship, the latest flavors and art here. One of the most renovated buildings in Tbilisi. An incredibly magnificent and enjoyable hotel built by the visionary Adjara Group.

If you are not staying, you should definitely come here for a coffee break. We can say that it is more than just a bar and restaurant. It has a special chocolateria and roastery. We went for breakfast. We preferred ricotta pancakes and a plate of eggs benedict. Prices are normal for Tbilisi in general, between 25-30 GEL (May 2024). You can stop by this cafe in the hotel lobby for breakfast or dinner.

Breakfast Is: This is by far the most happening breakfast place in Tbilisi. We found it very successful as a family. There is no open kitchen and the slowness that is common in Tbilisi here. Although there is only one chef, I would even say it is fast. If there are 2 people, I would say get 1 sweet and 1 salty plate. Creme Brulee French Toast was very popular!

Chaduna: One of my favorite places for breakfast. The coffee at Chaduna was unlike any I've had anywhere else in Tbilisi. Opens at 10:00. The menu includes Chizhi Bizhi (a type of menemen with tomatoes and eggs), and the breakfast quesadillas are very, very good. All brunch dishes are 20-25 GEL (May 2024).

Lolita: This is a place with an open kitchen right across from Rooms Hotel. Everything happens right in front of you. It is one of the rare places where the service is fast. We tried scrambled eggs, pancakes and Benedict. The delicious plates we ate were 20-25 GEL. The place is nice, but I think it has a more suitable ambiance for dinner than breakfast. By the way, breakfast is served until 14:00.

Kikliko: Kikliko means egg bread. The breakfast dishes here are mostly kikliko variations, but there are also classic breakfast dishes. It appeals to the Turkish palate, so it is very popular.

Hello Breakfast

Hello Breakfast: Next door to Shavi Coffee. One of the few places open daily from 8 a.m. with a menu of gluten-free bagels, delicious smoothie bowls, and other fresh plant-based dishes. We went, but we wouldn't go again.

Pulp: This is definitely one of our favorite cafes. The atmosphere, coffee, music, everything was enjoyable. I liked the apple cake more than I can describe. The desserts are undoubtedly very good. This is a "Scandinavian style" chic coffee shop. It is one of the rare cafes where there is a constant line of people waiting.

Pulp, Tiflis

Chernyi Cooperative Coffee Roasters: Tbilisi is full of treasures. One of the successful places in the 3rd wave coffee craze. Not very well known yet. The best coffee we had was here. Prices are not very affordable, but it is worth it for good coffee

They Said Books: When I learned that Five Elephant in Berlin used this coffee, I immediately put it on my list. The atmosphere and the design of the place already says, “Please sit down a little longer.” The coffee is already very good, and the carrot cake is a hit! You can come here just for that. There is a nice book collection downstairs. You can find many nice books in English, from cookbooks to life philosophies. It is a comfortable atmosphere for studying or just hanging out. However, it was very crowded the last time I went, and of course it is difficult to find a seat as a result of its popularity, and it is a very small place anyway.

Coffee Lab: I found another coffee shop 5 minutes away from Cheryni. The place is nice, the coffee is good. The service is just very slow. But this is a general situation for Tbilisi. It's like we're living in slow motion when we watch the employees.

Coffee Lab

Cafe Daphna: Definitely one of the first places you should go for khinkali. Meat-chicken soup, Georgian plate, fried sulguni cheese, khinkali are very good. Chikhirtma soup was good. Khinkali with mushrooms, cheese and potatoes are 1.5 GEL each. Khinkali with meat is 2 GEL each (May 2024).

Tamtaki: And now we come to my dürümcu! This is definitely one of the places I want you to try. When you are a little hungry, this is where you go for lunch. The pita goes into the oven the moment you order it. The meat starts cooking on the barbecue when you order it. Then all kinds of vegetables come inside. I ask, “Please, no coriander.” That’s it! We bought 2, one with meat and one with chicken. 20-21 GEL each (May 2024).

Mapshalia: Trying Georgian food for only 5-10 GEL! It is considered the most economical and delicious restaurant. We could not get in line with our stroller, and the restaurant on the ground floor was incredibly crowded. It is a completely local place. You can taste authentic Georgian food here. Cash only, just for your information!

Culinaryum Khaşheria: When you go to the sulfur baths side, please go here for food. The food is generally very good. We liked the khinkali soup and mushroom soup. Definitely try the fried cheese, the 'Satsivi' which is chicken with walnuts, the 'lobio' plate which is a type of bean appetizer and give this place a chance for other dishes of Georgian cuisine. If they ask if you want bread, say "Yes", it was incredibly beautiful. Yes, it is not very cheap but at least it is worth the money. The taste and service are very good.!

Cafe Littera: It was a place recommended by everyone I asked about Tbilisi. The food was delicious but really expensive. We got a plate of mussels and mushrooms and fried cheese. The starter, dessert and drink cost at least 100 GEL per person so I think you can make sharing and sensible choices here. The desserts were very good, I got a Mascarpone cheese dessert and the taste is still on my palate. They serve not only Georgian cuisine but also modern dishes that you can find in any good restaurant in the world. It would be much more enjoyable to sit in the courtyard in the spring.

Ninia's Garden: It was one of the dinner places I found most successful. Tomato salad, hummus, confit rabbit meat... Everything we ate was perfect. The place is incredibly charming. I strongly recommend you to make a reservation here for both the taste and the atmosphere. Prices 25-40 GEL (May 2024).

Shavi Coffee Roasters: Another coffee shop we love is Shavi. Shavi Coffee Roasters roasts green beans from Ethiopia, Guatemala and Brazil in the shop. The location of the cafe is very nice, with 2 seating areas facing the street. Their desserts are amazing, definitely try this place. There is a lot of seating inside, but the back is generally used for working, everyone is working with their computers. In the summer, there are benches in front of the door to sit.

Shavi Coffee Roasters, Tiflis

Sulico: The thing I definitely want you to come here and try is the Tomato Burrata Galette. I would buy a ticket to Tbilisi just to eat this again

A spear

Funicular Restaurant: As the name suggests, you can go up here by funicular. It has a wonderful view. How about watching all of Tbilisi from above? And eating the best khachapuri? The best khachapuri I ate on my 2024 trip was here. It's a bit far from the center, but if you're coming in the spring, don't miss this place.

Chveni: Sunny garden and barbecue right in front of your eyes. This is a restaurant where an award-winning chef works. The chef interprets and presents traditional Georgian dishes. Choose from Georgian croquettes, chicken with chkmeruli sauce, ghomi, lobio and satsivi balls. But I think you should definitely order mushroom chips for the table!

Bazari Orbeliani: A large food and market area. There are activities for children on Saturday and Sunday. A well-designed, clean and modern market. You can buy many products here. The top floor is the food court. You can find all kinds of food from Georgian to international cuisine. We tried Burger Brothers, Luciana and Tacodore. Luciano was ehh, but Tocador and Burger Brothers were very good.

Veriko: An area with a few restaurants. One of them is Veriko, which offers fusion Georgian cuisine. Mint is one of the new places that has opened for breakfast. The atmosphere and everything we tasted were great.

Blood

Museum Cafe: Attached to the Georgian Museum of Fine Arts, Museum Cafe is an incredibly cute cafe with furniture, pop art pieces and retro Georgian posters. Its balcony overlooking Rustaveli Avenue is a delight in the spring!

Museum Cafe, Tiflis

Slink Cafe: An oasis hidden in the busy street of Marjanishvili district on the other side of the river. You walk through a small forest and come across a cute cafe with mint green windows. It will be much more lively in the spring, but it was also beautiful in the winter. When we entered, there was a crackling stove inside. Good for breakfast and lunch. We stopped for a coffee and dessert break. The homemade apple cake was very nice. The homemade apple cake was very nice.

Tbilisi for Families with Children

We are people who walk every street and every hill during our entire trip, but the most sensible move you can make with a child in Tbilisi is to take a taxi.

Taxi will make your life much easier. Side streets are very hilly and especially tiring to move with a baby stroller. Apart from hilly streets, even crossing the street can be a problem in certain parts of the city, you use underpasses in areas where there are no pedestrian crossings or traffic lights, but unfortunately the lack of elevators there can be a challenge, especially for families traveling with a baby stroller.

Tbilisi for Families with Children

A location where you will never have any problems with food, Mira loved the food. Potato and chicken-lentil soup got us by just fine.

The large and small green parks in the city center are definitely valuable for children. We visited Dedaena Park and 9 April Park near Rustaveli every day.

In Tbilisi, everyone gives priority to families with children. The cafes and markets we went to showed an extremely helpful approach. They gave priority everywhere. They stole our hearts with these characteristics. Thank you, beautiful people!

Tbilisi, we will come to you again, you surprised and delighted us immensely!

We are coming to the end of our article with this suggestion, but if you want to continue reading, you can take a look at our Batumi Travel Guide | Places to Visit article .

You can find Escort Ladies in all hotels like this.
